Poonam
Singh is attached to stage play since her childhood. She
has worked with some of the best known figures in this field. She also
formally studied drama. She obtained a diploma from the Punjab University
drama department. She
then joined NSD, the most prestigious drama school in the country where
only one student from each province is accepted each year, but she had to
leave NSD after 6 months. As a
daughter-in-law of Preet Lari family who had been writing since her
college days, she was asked to work for Preet Lari magazine after Navtej
Singh, her father-in-law and editor of Preet Lari, became
ill. Later on, when her husband Sumeet Singh who was then the editor, was
murdered by terrorists, she became the editor of Preet Lari. She has been
editing Preet Lari now for almost 25 years. With the help and
encouragement of her second husband, Ratikant Singh who is younger brother
of late Sumeet Singh, she has for the last few years again started taking
interest in stage play. She
has developed a unique technique of presenting short stories both for the
stage and audio recordings on CDs. It is an effort to present the stories
in three languages in such a way that the listeners would feel as if they
were listening to a stage performance. |
