Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary film Saving Face won the Oscar for documentary short at the 84th Academy Awards on 26th February 2012. The film follows British plastic surgeon Dr. Mohammad Jawãd, who returns to his homeland Punjab to help victims of acid burns in domestic and sexual violence. The film follows one woman as she fights to see that the perpetrators of the crime are imprisoned for life. The film maker Obaid was born in Karachi to an Urdu speaking Hindu family.
