to Host Seminar on Waris Shah -the Legend at 4th Global
Punjabi Milaap AASA (Asian American Seniors
Association) along with NKPI, PHACA (Pakistan Heritage And Cultural
Association) is planning to
host 4th Global Punjabi Milaap on April 9th , 2011
Saturday from 1pm to 6 pm at Holiday Inn at 200 E. Rand Rd in
Mt.Prospect, Illinois. Topic will be Waris Shah-The Legend. Wars Shah is
also known as Shakespeare of Punjabi literature. Many people have done
their Ph.Ds on his Romantic epic, “Heer Ranjha”. People have added
many couplets to his original writing and are making money by
adulterating his original work. For example many people think,”Doli
charhdian mariyan Heer cheekan” is Waris’ writing, it is not. Record
needs to be set straight and credit needs to go where it is due.
Prominent speakers and writers will share their knowledge on the
subject. Some confirmed speakers are Prof.Jagindar Singh Ramdev,
Dr.Javed Bhatty, Mr.Sajid Chaudhry, Dr.Ifti Nasim and are confirmed.
Mr.Riaz Baber will direct short play on Heer Ranjha and Romeo Juliet to
show similarity and differences between both epics. We are in need of
artists who would like to perform in this play. Local and few out of
town poets will be invited to recite their poetry. Singers who would
like to sing “Heer” are also invited to sing. Punjabi writers and
Artists are welcome to display and sell their books and Art.
